Perched high above the Bay of Islands, Hihitahi Dreaming is a three-storey architectural holiday home that showcases what’s possible when challenging topography meets bold, integrated design. The steep site required careful planning and creative problem-solving - from geotechnical assessments through to final structural and architectural detailing.
Taiao provided both architectural and engineering services for this project, delivering a cohesive solution that balances beauty with buildability. The design captures expansive sea views at every level, with each storey stepping naturally down the hillside to embrace the land. North-facing openings and carefully positioned glazing invite sunlight deep into the home, enhancing both comfort and energy efficiency.
